Hunters: Ricky Espino, Kelby McCoy, Albert Peña, Art Rivera, Terry Mason

TBC members took a trip to the Coastal Plains of Texas in search of Nilgai Antelope, Hogs, and Javelinas. We arrived on Thursday at midday and unloaded as our host and ranch manager Mike Mireles came and had some laughs with us. As we prepared for the first hunt our excitement wasn't the only thing that was heating up, the temperature outside was in the mid 90's the entire hunt.

The hunt was a hard one and the game seemed to think so also as they were moving pretty close to dark. However nothing could dampen the laughter, good times, and great food experienced between good friends. The hunt started off with Art drawing first blood as he took a real nice hog on the first hunt. The next morning Albert and Terry double teamed and put the stalk on some feeding Javelinas and both arrowed one of those smelly little critters.  Art, Ricky and Kelby seemed to be in Nilgai on just about each hunt but hunting Nilgai is like stalking Whitetails, incredibly difficult. They are extremely elusive and unpatternable. Following hunts included Ricky taking a 260lb hog, Albert taking 2 hogs and his 2nd Javi in the same hunt and ended with Kelby taking a beautiful Nilgai cow.

We ate like kings as Mike and his wife Sherri cooked some of the best meat we have ever tasted which included fresh caught Sea Trout, Axis Deer Kabobs, Nilgai sausage, Nilgai backstrap wrapped in bacon, T-Bone steaks topped off with rice and beans! As usual Mike provided the laughs along with the incredible food and you couldn't ask for more on a hunting trip. I am usually happy enjoying a Round Steak (Bologna) on our hunting trips so Mike and Sherri truly went out of their way to give us a memorable trip.

Trips like these are what make awesome memories and lifelong friendships and this trip was no exception. We look forward to many long years of hunting together and look forward to many more laughs including coming back annually. Great shooting guys!

Tejas Bowhunting Club would like to give a huge thank you to Mike and Sherri Mireles for their hospitality, laughs and incredible food! We have been blessed to have been treated so well by the Mireles familia as they treated us like we were family too.

All our Best,
Tejas Bowhunting Club

UPDATE:

On Dec 19, 2005, Mike lost his battle with cancer. We will always be thankful for his hospitality, his hard work, and most of all, his friendship. He worked hard for us to ensure we had a fun and successful hunt and for that we will be always grateful. We miss him and his awesome personality but we know we will hunt with him again one day. Till then he will always live in our hearts.
